

John “Jack” Ryan, 89, of Rochester Hills, passed away August 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Ferndale, Michigan on October 26, 1926. Jack graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit at the age of 20, after taking an extended break to serve in the US Navy on the USS Eldorado as a Morse Code Operator during World War II. He attended the University of Wisconsin.
Jack was married to Wanda Boyer on August 23, 1952. He owned a State Farm Insurance Agency for 34 years. He wrote a weekly column for the Suburban Lifestyle magazine and also for the Vintage View. He was the author of "1926 - 1946" a book about growing up in Detroit and his Navy experiences. Jack enjoyed golf, politics, and fishing.
Jack is survived by his wife, Wanda of 64 years and his children, Sharon (Dr. Benjamin) Newman, Rochele (Mark) Hornbacher, Annette (Donald) Lewandowski and John Michael Ryan. Grandchildren, Erin and Ryan O’Leary, Mary, Mark, and Charles Hornbacher, Kathleen (Danny) Dickinson, Donald, Alexander, and Kaitlyn Lewandowski. Great-grandchildren, Isaac, Jackson, Daniel, and Gabrielle Dickinson.
A celebration of Jack's life and Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 22 at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will immediately follow. Memorial contributions can be directed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul c/o St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Rochester Hills.
