He was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 24, 1959. Joseph Lueck graduated from St. Veronica's Catholic Church grade school and Notre Dame High School. He then went on to attend the University of Detroit Mercy acquiring his Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration and his MBA.
He was married to Kathryn Lynn Starr on November 6, 1999.
Joe had a lifelong career with the Telcom Credit Union and its industry affiliates. He initiated development of the marketing function for Telcom credit union helping it to grow to a $446 million full-service institution serving 31,000+ members. He created marketing promotional materials and financial reports, authored press releases for all multi-media channels, research, and satisfaction surveys, etc. to improve the credit union industry using his marketing management leadership to enhance member growth and satisfaction always to the benefit of credit union member-owners and bottom line member advocacy.
Joe served as Chairman of the joint Credit Union Metropolitan Area Advertising Council (CUMAAC). He developed a unique partnership for fundraising efforts to support the local Detroit area division of the Salvation Army Bed & Breakfast Program serving to provide food and shelter for the hungry and less fortunate in the Detroit area.
Joe had a passion for all Detroit sports teams - the Tigers, Red Wings, Lions, and Pistons. He was an avid softball pitcher for over thirty years playing and organizing many Oakland/Macomb/Wayne softball team games. He had fun tossing the ceremonial first pitch at the Detroit Tigers Baseball Stadium aand attending baseball games for its members as part of an ad council sponsorship. He was awarded the best member newsletters in Michigan for largest asset class from the Michigan Credit League trade association.
He enjoyed golf with his brothers and family festivities. He loved being by the water at the Detroit River watching the freighters pass by on the beaches of Marine City, MI and Port Lambton, Ontario Canada. He loved vacationing in Traverse City and traveling the state of Michigan. He enjoyed walking the Riverside Parks of Auburn Hills, MI; swimming with the dolphins at the Discovery Cove Island and Nokemis Beach in Florida, the New Mexico mountains of Ruidoso and Albuquerque and snow skiing in Colorado and visiting other family in South Carolina. He also enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his many varieties of tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers and peppers.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kathryn Starr; brother Mike Lueck (Kate); brother Thomas Lueck (Kathy);
brother Jim (Genny); brother Bob (Colleen); sister Mary Jo Ochylski (Mike); sister-in-law Jacque Starr Newman, (Tony) and their children Ashley and Stephen; mother-in-law Kay Starr; brother-in-law Ron Starr (Pam) and his four sons, Andrew, Brandon, Dominic and Joshua and 19 more nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Mary J. Lueck (Hughes); father, Miles Joseph Lueck and his father-in-law, James Lynn Starr.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am at St. Veronica's Catholic Church at 21440 Universal Dr., Eastpointe, MI on Friday, February 7th, 2020. Family and friends will meet at 9:30 am in the vestibule at the back of St. Veronica church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
His last gift was to the Michigan Donor Registry to the Gift of Life, Ann Arbor, Michigan to possibly serve Cancer and burn victims. etc. We will miss his beautiful smile and blue eyes and his ability to make people laugh.
