Josephine Johanna Sellgren

SELLGREN, Josephine (Jo), age 99; Jo was born on November 23, 1911 and passed away on February 19, 2011. Born and raised in Calumet, Michigan, Jo moved to Detroit in 1929. In 1939 she was married to her husband, Frank. Together they raised three sons: Frank, now 68; Tom, now 64; and Jim, now 59. After a blessed marriage that lasted 48 years, Frank died in 1987. Jo then focused her energies on helping others and served as a volunteer at Beaumont Hospital for a number of years. Even as she approached the century mark, Jo remained very active and served as an inspiration to everyone around her. She was a master of the piano and her impromptu concerts at Waltonwood Senior Living community, where she spent the last six years of her life, were highly anticipated and very well received. Jo was also an avid bowler, a master of the crossword puzzle and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan. Jo survived four siblings; brothers Mario, Henry and Frank and sister, Delphine. She leaves behind her three sons, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a legacy of kindness, love and affection. A memorial mass will be held for Jo on Saturday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Ave., Rochester, MI 48307.
