I'll miss you George. You took me sailing and gave me the bug. We'd fly by each other out on lake St. Clair and laugh at the fun we were having. I went through three yachts and it was the most enjoyable time ever. Thanks for changing my life and sending me off to places I never imagined.

George and I shared our teen years together on Huron Pointe and at Mount Clemens High School. He, and wife Carol, also shared an interest in education, travel, and Mackinac Island more recently when they very ably provided the families at Lobbestael School with travel arrangements for many years of annual field trips to that wonderful upper peninsula island for L'Anse Creuse pupils finishing their elementary careers with an exciting, highly educational experience in Michigan history for the boys and girls, their teachers, and even parents. George and Carol LaPlante provided thoughtful, expert, leadership for great 3-day trips to historic northern Michigan and Mackinac Island. George, you were a good friend to many Harrison Township families; you will be missed. Thanks for good memories! Jim Cambridge, former principal, Emma V. Lobbestael School.

George was a great man. He made my mom happy and they were happily married for many years. He taught me many things; how to love boating-sailing and power boating, how to drive a stick, how to be strong when things were tough, how to love and have fun. He bought me my first drink when I turned 21 years old and it was my honor that he walked me down the aisle to get married. He was a great role model and he was a good friend and dad. I love and miss him already- Mary Rae

We are so sorry to hear of Captain George's passing. George was a very special man and touched many lives, especially within the Colony Marine Rendezvous family. He was a master of Great Lakes boating and was always the first to lend help and expertise to the new, and veteran boaters. He was the perfect Captain; always leading our boaters to the next port with an infectious spirit and love of boating. We will miss George, but will relish the special memories he helped to create on our boating adventures! (Especially the golf cart decorating contests!) Love to Carol, Shelly and his family.
