I first met Lindsey at Fleetwood Nautical College in 1974. I was in my last year there and Lindsey had just started the Merchant Navy Radio Officers course. She had such an infectious laugh and became good friends, we even dated for a while.
We got back in touch maybe 10 years ago and had several chats on the phone, then exchanging xmas cards and long catch up letters each year.  I spoke to Ross and him being a Tottenham Hotspur fan I had to send him a football shirt to remind him of home! 
When we didn't get a card last xmas 2018, I did wonder what had happened .......  I only found out today by chance on the internet that she had passed away., I am so so sad, words cannot suffice.

To Ross and the family, please stay strong and cherish the memories Lindsey brought to everyone around her. Her personality and selfless kindness shone through throughout all her life.

I will raise a glass (of wine) to her tonight and play Rod Stewart "We are sailing" in memory of such a wonderful lady.

I've known Lindsey for all my 13 years on this earth she always was and still is a comedian :) she would always ask me how school was regardless of my age ❤❤ it always made me feel so happy...she would always joke around and ask me if I had a girlfriend or if I would like coffee :) to which I would always reply hehe no thanks😆.


James claire and Laura my deepest condolences 

I first met Lyndsey at Marconi Avionics back in the 80's where we became close friends.
I have many fond memories of Lins including help setting up an all-girls 5 aside football team called the Wobblers and  being part of the Marconi netball team.
Along our friendship journey we had many adventures usually including a few tipples.  She was my bridesmaid at my fist wedding and was there to support me when it failed, even letting me live with her and her Grandad for a number of months.  We affectionately called each other Mother and Daughter with of course Lindsey being the Mother!
When she moved to the US it left a very big hole in my life, we kept in touch over the years and I saw her children grow up through photographs.
When I found out about her illness and the dignity of how she dealt with it my heart broke.  I will always treasure my memories of Lindsey and feel very honoured that she made me part of her life.
Ross you had a truly wonderful wife.

Lindsey and I primarily met at GEC/Marconi in the 1980’s and later Lindsey moved opposite me in Carroll Close, Newport Pagnell.

What I will always remember is the cosy home she made for herself and her Granddad.

She always had soft red glowing lamps on which made the place inviting and Rod Stewart playing in the background.

In recent times chatting on messenger obviously brought us closer together. The banter was hilarious and it was mostly about Witches, wine and broomsticks.

I will miss those chats.

My memories of Lindsey were all about fun. 

We met at Marconi Avionics in the 80’s the company was like one big happy family and there was always something going on. 

We were part of a crowd who regularly got together outside of work, attending parties and frequenting the pubs and clubs in and around Milton Keynes.

When The Poppleton’s moved to the US we lost touch other than sending annual Christmas cards, until Facebook came into our lives and then we all picked up our friendships seamlessly. I love Kit Kat’s and Lindsey often sent through things referring to them in messages headed “saw this and thought of you” I also received a postcard randomly through the post headed again with the obligatory “saw this and thought of you” it was a picture of a beach with sea shells on it, this referred to something that I once did on a girls holiday, I won’t go into it but it was a private joke between us girls. These memories will always make me smile.

Well Lindsey I will certainly miss you and the banter. I am seeing Rod Stewart in Milton Keynes, June 2019 and I will take you along in my heart.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Lindsey.
I first met Lindsey at Fleetwood Nautical College in the mid seventies, we hit if off straight away and had many good times laughing, drinking and just having fun as young students do.
Lindsey was a couple of years older than me and took me under her wing making sure I didn't do anything too stupid.
She had a great impact on my life and the sadness I feel at her passing is immense .
All the memories I have of her are good ones and she will always be in my heart.

It is hard to believe I only had known Lindsey for just a few years as it felt like a lifetime. Our shared love for her daughter, traveling, good music, the French countryside, Trader Joe's , and chocolate was an instant connection that I have and will always cherish along with much much more. Those simple and wonderful memories continue to remind me how happy, supportive, and full of love she was every single day. She is the woman that I know Claire always admired, reflected in her actions ,and will continue to do so every second of every day into the future. I always will be indebted to you for welcoming me into your family without a moment's hesitation. Words can not come anywhere near to the true impact you have made on my life along with many others. We miss you and we will love you always.  

James, Claire, and Laura... I’m so very sorry. Your mum was such a lovely lady, and did a fine job raising an amazing family. I enjoyed every conversation with her about you and your adventures. I’m keeping you and your family in my prayers. ❤️

I first met Lindsey when James was a freshman in my class. As I got to know and love him and his antics in the classroom and on the soccer field I would call her and she would always ask “what did he do now?” She had a great sense of humor and when she told me there was another Poppleton entering Stoney and this one is different. Oh my and she just grinned. Claire. So much different. But just as funny and I really enjoyed watching Claire grow. Then she says well there is a third and she’s not like James or Claire. Huh? Laura. Quiet and so extremely creative. Yep three totally different kids , totally awesome and unique in their own way. Lindsey what a great job you have done raising three amazing kids with their own quirks and yet all are exceptionally wonderful caring adults. I am honored to have known you and been able to be a small part of your family. 

I don’t know that I’ve felt as close to any of my friends’ parents as I have with Mrs. P.  She had a way of making me smile with holiday greeting cards, presents, and Facebook messages.  She knew my love for animals and would regularly send me cute and funny pictures and videos to brighten my day.  Whenever I was over at Claire's house, Mrs. P would make yummy iced drinks and delicious pasta salads; I know I am not alone when I say that I definitely appreciated her talent for cooking.  

I loved her dry sense of humor and her consistent encouragement to take a break in life and enjoy a glass of wine.  Over the last 13 years that Claire and I became closer friends, I’ve enjoyed the many, many times that we were able to share a laugh at Claire’s expense.  Even when Claire was out of town, I loved the moments we were able to stop and chat with each other- whether it was running into each other at the store, the library, or even chatting through rolled down windows at a stoplight in traffic.  

When my dad died, Mrs. P drove all around town with Laura to search for baseball themed items to complete a Detroit Tigers photo board for the funeral for me.  I will forever appreciate this gesture and her presence at my dad’s visitation and funeral.  At the one-year mark of my dad’s death, even though she was not feeling well, she made sure to send me another message to let me know she was thinking of me and sending love.  

I am so thankful for the caring gestures, laughs, and smiles we were able to share for so many years, and of course, that Mrs. P raised such wonderful girls who have become such close and cherished friends.  <3  

I do not know where to start to express the loss of Lindsey, She was truly the only pure selfless person I ever met!! I will miss our coffee and chicken noodle soup meetings!! She came into my life at a very terrible time, and helped me get through the very dark days!! She took care of my mother for the last 15 months of her life, and always told me" i wish i could have known your mom before the dementia took her away" and i wish you could have too. Lindsey's spirit will live in all our hearts and memories for ever. If you really think back on your friendship with this amazing lady, think of some of her lessons learned & taught by the true heart of goodness!  She used to love it when I would bring my dogs to see her, and when Claire graduated college, she brought in a beautiful picture of her  self and Clair still in her cap & gown!!  My mother was so touched by this , she actually had tears in her eyes! 
When she texted me about her illness, I was actually just leaving the grocery store and had to pull off the road, as I was just sobbing!! The world has lost a very rare jewel in Lindsey, She would never accept help from any one, and did things her own way. She would always stand up for the little guy, or the senior citizen she was caring for. Her legacy left behind will be a message of kindness and love, as she gave way more than she ever thought about giving back. She was so proud of her family and shared Claire's adventures, and so very proud of the fine young woman Laura was becoming. But with a Mom like Lindsey, how could you go wrong!! I never met James, but Lindsey was happy she was able to see him get married. And for Ross my heart just breaks for you, what a loss, and so unexpected!! Thank god Laura was there to take her to the clinic that evening, as Lindsey never would of gone on her own she always had compassion and kindness, and always put others ahead of her self. That is a rare quality indeed, and not many could bring sunshine and light to so many!! 


My dear cousin Lindsey taken far too early.You were the most kindest,selfless loving lady I have ever known. You always put others before yourself,I remember the night before your wedding to your wonderful Ross you put my Dad up as he had a meeting in Milton Keynes & you never let on!We shared drink fuelled weekends at our home in Walsall & with you in Milton Keynes, you would cook the best roast dinners & delicious cakes. You & Ian would talk about getting a pub where you would run the food side & Ian the pub(me & Ross would drink whiskey & ignore you both!)I am so glad I was able to meet up with you at James's wedding it was so lovely spending time with you & Claire & catching up.Your children are a credit to you & Ross, may your legacy live on through them.I have your annual newsletters & photos taken each year which I will treasure along with my memories of great times spent together.I send all my love & more to Ross, James, Claire & Laura,I can't imagine how you are all coping,I am so sorry for your loss, Lindsey you were one in a million & I love you loads xxxxxxxx

Our family met Lindsey the summer of 2009, shortly after we moved to Rochester. Jonah, our youngest was just born and Oscar was not yet 2. Matt and I both worked in Dearborn at that time, with no family nearby, we really needed help. Lindsey & I sat on the floor with the kids and the dog and had a great talk. She told me about her time working on a British jet build project, meeting Ross, her kids and her love of going to the library and reading. We hit it off right away. I loved her calmness, friendliness and genuineness.

Lindsey looked after Oscar & Jonah for about 9 years; she shared her life with us, her family, her love of gardening, Harry Potter, Star Wars…we all had so many likes in common. Lindsey and the kids would go to the library, they went to the parks. They did crafts and painted. They built large tinker toy structures. They were always busy! Lindsey was very close to them, they called her Lins.  Our oldest, Oscar even picked up her accent, especially when talking about Harry Potter.

She was, to me a great supporter and a genuine friend. We would share our stresses.  Nothing a glass of wine couldn’t cure ;) I often appreciated her experience and advice, I will keep those thoughts in my heart always. Lindsey was a part of our family and we felt a part of hers as well…she made a wonderful impression on our boys as they grew older. She was an influence that was always positive, confident, thoughtful, brave…and funny.

We will always keep Lindsey and the memories we shared close in our hearts. We were so lucky to have the privilege of knowing her. She was an incredible, gentle, strong and very witty woman. We will miss her every day.

As soon as Claire and I became very close friends, Lindsey welcomed me in as part of the family. She and I chatted online often, she sent cards, letters, and care packages to me in the mail. She even included me in a short family vacation to Canada so that I could surprise Claire as she returned from teaching abroad. One of my favorite memories will always be sitting in the hotel room in Niagara, drinking wine with a moose on the label, and remotely setting off the van's car alarm in the parking lot to scare unsuspecting strangers walking by while we hid and watched out the window; Lindsey of course had the keys, and it was her idea! She had such a sharp wit and a vibrant sense of fun all while being one of the kindest and most loving people I will ever know.  I am lucky to have known and loved her for as long as I was able to. 

To the Poppleton family, I love you all and I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I'm sending you all of my love.

I first met Lindsey in 1974 at Fleetwood Nautical College and it was her humour that made us long lasting friends. Many times she tried to convince me that Rod Stewart was the best singer in the world and Man City the best team! She took me to my first live gig, Gallagher and Lyle at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. 

Meeting Ross and having James, Claire and Laura made her complete and very happy. We are thinking of you all at this very sad time.

I didn't  get enough time to spend with her.  The short time I knew her showed me that she put others needs before her own.  She sent holiday gifts to our family and was a generous woman.  She was a hard worker.  She made me laugh and had a quick wit.  We shared a meal or two and as I like to do too we shared some spirits.  The running joke was let's have some Guinness!  So the next time I tip a few......Cheers to her and may she now be at peace.  She will be missed and I'm sorry I  didn't have more time to share! Ginger

Lindsey - the lady I met in 1989 with her young baby. We met over a pile of rubble when this young family visited the nursery I was just setting up.  Over the next 6 years Wellies Day Nursery cares for James & Claire, before their move to America. Lindsey was so supportive of all we did and became involved in social activities too. Social Media has kept us in contact over the years, along with annual Christmas cards.

Where do I start?  A truly loyal and committed friend for almost 50 years...   Lins was always a brilliant writer, fun-loving and a great mate.  We both walked out of high school together in June 1974 - Lins was offered a place at Nautical College in Fleetwood to secure her dream of travelling and becoming independent of her family.  She boarded with Mr and Mrs Formstone who she called Mrs F and Father -  Janet, her friend at College also boarded.  We had great nights out in  nearby Blackpool and Lins loved both the vocational and social side.  
Lins was the sister I never had.  My mum and dad 'adopted' her as she was more at our house than her own and we were all delighted when she had permission to come on family hols with us - the photo attached was taken on one such hol!  As 16 year olds we used to play darts with the other holidaymakers in the local pub - we gradually built up a fanbase in the pub as we were so bad that it was funny!  We met the Chelsea reserve team whilst in the pub and I think if Lins hadn't been a devout Manchester City supporter things may have turned out differently.  We did beat their team at darts and Lins may have broken a heart or two as well.
Lins had a Saturday job at Boots whilst at school and I had one at BHS - we used to pool our money on a Saturday night. She always liked a theme and she'd turn up with blue carnations, tartan scarfs, matching necklaces, name badges - with different names or we'd have to speak French or with other accents all night - again, her sense of fun!
I remember when she met Ross, she was truly smitten and definitely on a mission to find out more about him!  She was living in Milton Keynes and working at Marconi.  She adored him and when James came along I felt at last she had found the happiness that she so well and truly deserved.  For Claire and Laura to come along was pure bliss and from all the letters and photographs she was immensely proud of her family - It was all she ever wanted.
