January 17, 1961 – May 4, 2016
Lynn Hatter LaPointe, 55, of Rochester, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, after a long illness. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Sandra and Charles Hatter, Lynn spent most of her life in Michigan but enjoyed many years in Austin, Texas and several years in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1979, where she served as Vice President of the student council and played softball and basketball. Lynn continued her education at Western Michigan University.
Lynn, fondly known as “Lynnie Marie”, was an incredibly vibrant, bold and talented woman with a sense of humor and wit that would make you smile even on your worst days. She cared deeply about others and was always creating art, cooking and entertaining to bring laughter and joy to all around her. She had a flair for fashion and was often seen in beautiful hats and unique colorful combinations of clothing. Lynn’s childhood was spent with her sisters and life-long friends, which included summers “living” at Heart of the Hills Swim Club where Lynn swam on the swim team and later became a lifeguard. Lynn’s love for cooking and creativity led her to several positions in restaurants. She worked at Tiffany’s and the Pretzel Bell in East Lansing and while in Austin she managed the well-known Souper Salads and TGIF Friday’s. After Austin she moved back to Michigan and worked at Charlies Crab and Dugan’s where Lynn’s artichoke dip still has its place on the menu today. It was at Charlies Crab that she met her husband of 25 years Jeff LaPointe. Together they loved to entertain, spend time in Traverse City and Cedar Point. Her creativity came alive in their home especially at Christmas where her house looked like an enchanted toy store with every inch of the home decorated including more than 550 Santa Clauses. Lynn loved animals, especially her beloved dogs, Sugar, Spice and Sam and her cats, Macaroni and Cheesie.
Lynn is survived by her devoted, caring and loving husband, Jeff LaPointe, her mother Sandra Hatter and father Charles Hatter; her twin sister Lori Hatter; her sister Kathy Hatter Fehling and brother-in-law Bill; her niece Samantha Fehling Niemeyer and her husband Eric; her niece Madi Fehling Johnson and her husband Matt; her niece Ali Fehling and her nephew Logan Leamons, as well as Jeff’s family, many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
The Celebration of Lynn's Life will be held at The Rochester Community House, 816 Ludlow, Rochester, Michigan on July 30, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lynn’s name to Leader Dogs for the Blind [email protected]
