Mary Jane was born the daughter of Roy and Ifie (Leonard) Rose on July 16, 1930. She graduated High School and married James Matthews in Detroit on July 2nd 1949. Mary Jane and Jim raised their family in Washington Township. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.
Mary Jane was passionate about her family and her faith. She sang in the choir at Mt. Vernon Methodist for many years. Mary Jane enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She loved to sew, in earlier years, sewing her children’s clothes.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Michelle Banks; grandchildren Melissa (Scott) Wood, Preston Banks Jr., Philip Matthews, Anne DeFauw, Mary Schweigher, Margaret Ford, Shannon Dinsdale, Scott Matthews, Lana Walker, Nathan Matthews, Rose Matthews, Nicholas Matthews, Erica Brengman, and Monika Volkman; fifty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband James Matthews, son Scott Matthews, and brother Myron Rose.
Mary Jane’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Saturday February 3rd, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan.
