

Matt was born in Peoria, Illinois on December 3, 1972. He was raised in Ira Township, MI. Matt attended Lutheran schools, one of which was Lutheran High North where he met his future wife Heather Johnson. He graduated in the class of 1991 and went on to Michigan State University where he played division one baseball. He earned his bachelor degree in accounting with high honor from MSU in 1996. Matt married Heather Johnson on December 31, 1998 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Macomb, Michigan. He and Heather raised their family in Addison Township while Matt built a successful career in accounting. He was a CPA who was considered an expert on complex tax issues.
Matt belonged to St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester, MI and was a member of the foundation board there as well. He was an honest, humble man with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to attend his boys sporting events as well as play sports with them in the yard. He loved vacationing and being surrounded by nature. He also enjoyed hunting with his brother and friends.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Heather Hiler; their children Nolan (20), Garett (18) and Grant (14); mother Sharon Leidel; siblings Melissa Hiler, Micah (Georgina) Hiler, and Matrina (Billy) Whitley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Matt is predeceased by his father Reverend Melvin Hiler.
Matt’s family welcomes all to a visitation on Sunday May 23nd, 2021 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. Matt will lie instate on Monday May 24th, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 1011 W. University Drive in Rochester. Burial will follow at Lakeville Cemetery in Leonard, Michigan.
