Nick was born the son of Harold and Elsie (Shuklian) Palaian in Pontiac, Michigan on September 28, 1956. He graduated from Rochester High School, class of 1974 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Advertising from Michigan State University. Nick married the love of his life, Pamela Willits, on June 29, 1985 at St. John’s Armenian Church where he has been a lifelong member. Nick worked the first eight years of his career as a Michigan State Trooper, before joining State Farm in 1987 and serving for many years in sales and management. Nick loved his job and State Farm, and was proud to give many people an opportunity at State Farm over the years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 21 in Pontiac, a past State Master Counselor of DeMolay International, and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite.
Nick was first and foremost a people person, who always saw the good in everyone. He loved being with his family, and especially hosting family gatherings, as well as some famous pool parties for his employees. He enjoyed traveling the world with Pam, and especially cherished their time together with their friends in Aruba each year. Nick enjoyed decades of golfing and bowling leagues.
Nick is survived by his loving wife Pamela; mother Elsie Palaian; children Kevin (Ruth) Palaian and Lisa (Derek) Buyan; grandchildren Kali and Jimi; sister Melanie (John) Godoshian and brother-in-law Jack Karakshian; brotherly uncle Arthur (Joann) Palaian; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Palaian and sister Joy Karakshian.
Nick’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Thursday, January 12th, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 pm, and on Friday, January 13th from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Armenian Church located at 22001 Northwestern Highway in Southfield, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nick’s honor to Forgotten Harvest or St. John’s Armenian Church.
