Richard was the beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children, Christine Walters (Peter Walters), Richard Poupard (Deborah Poupard), Jennie Basirico (David Basirico), Josette Lucci (partner Heather Anger), and Peggy Wells (Kelly Wells). He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild lovingly anticipated in September.
He is also survived by his sister, Deanna Burtka (Gary), and his brother, Duane Poupard (Mary Poupard, deceased 2025).
Richard was a dentist by profession and took great pride in caring for others. Outside of his work, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, playing poker and cards, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved. He especially enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing tomatoes.
Above all, Richard was a devoted family man. His love, guidance, humor, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will forever cherish the many memories and the lasting legacy of love he leaves behind.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary, at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 West University Drive, Rochester, Michigan 48307.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m., in state beginning at 10:30 a.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Avenue, Rochester, Michigan 48307.
