Richard was born to Janusz and Wladyslawa Wojcik on January 24, 1947, in Lübeck, Germany. The family emigrated to the U.S. when Richard was four, settling in Hamtramck.
He attended Wayne State University and then went on to enjoy a long career in Detroit’s thriving advertising community. He started as a writer, photographer, and later became a well-known artist/photo representative.
Richard was introduced to the love of his life, Susan, by a mutual friend, and the two knew they were meant to be. The pair married on November 3, 1995, and hosted a small but memorable celebration with friends, family, and their daughter Sally.
Over the years, Richard followed many outdoor pursuits: an avid rock climber, a catch-and-release fisherman, along with being a committed nature conservationist and active member of The Anglers of the Au Sable.
While he was also an adventurous (former) drag racer and lifelong car enthusiast, Richard had a quieter side. He’d spend countless hours reading, watching NCIS and Detroit sports (particularly the Pistons), and enjoying the comforts of home.
Above all, he loved his family and especially loved being a father. Richard is survived by his loving wife Susan Walsh, his daughter Sally (Jeremy) Wharton, his brother Edward (Sun) Wojcik, sister-in-law Marlene Wojcik, his nieces Sarah (Adam), Lucyna, and Gabby, and nephews Alex (Kim), Janusz, and AJ. He also loved his great nieces and nephews: Skyler, Everly, Rami, and Liam.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents: Janusz and Wladyslawa Wojcik, and his brother Victor Wojcik.
