Ron was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 7, 1943 to Geraldine Gibson and Raleigh Lucas of Kentucky. He married his true love, Sue Ann Collins, on November 9, 1968. Sue was his rock. Their love is one for the ages.
Ron attended trade school and worked his entire career as a carpenter. He worked on some commercial landmarks around Oakland County and built their home in Rochester Hills.
He was a walking encyclopedia, quick-witted and joyfully hilarious, taught his daughters to be critical thinkers, and passed down to them his excellent taste in music. He lived his life with integrity, generosity, and compassion for others and animals. He was a nature enthusiast, and spent his time watching sunsets on Lake Michigan, rock hunting on Lake Superior and camping all around the Upper Peninsula with Sue. He loved a good bonfire, and he had a regular tee time with his golf buddies for decades. As an avid Detroit sports fan, he enjoyed attending Tigers games and watching the Lions win. (Go Lions!)
Ron was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He cherished, protected, and supported his family fiercely. He treasured his nephew, Jason and his family, his cousins, and his half siblings. He leaves behind his adored wife, Sue; daughters, Vanessa, Jennifer (Ronald), and Sarah (Daniel); grandchildren Rachel, Nicholas, William, Alyssa, Jacob, and Breanna and Brendan. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine Gibson and Raleigh Lucas, his stepfather, Chester Gibson, and his brother, Michael Gibson.
At this time, there will be no funeral services. The family is planning a small memorial in the summer months.
Memorial contributions in Ron’s honor can be made to the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy.
