Sharon was born to Lorna & William Poyfair on January 2, 1938 in Flint, Michigan. She was a graduate of Central High School in Flint. Sharon married Douglas L. Aho on July 27, 1957. After raising their family in Fenton, they retired to Trout Creek, Michigan where they spent 17 years. Winters would take them to Estero, Florida for several years. After Doug’s death on October 19, 2012 Sharon moved to Rochester, Michigan to be near family.
Whether Sharon was helping in the classrooms of their two children at Lake Fenton Community Schools; working at VG’s Food Center in Fenton and Davison for 20+ years; traveling with her daughter, sister and/or friends; playing cards with her sister and friends; orchestrating the renovation and rebirth of the Historical Society building in the Upper Peninsula; arranging the Hunters’ Dinner for 200+ people each November in the UP; working in the church or spending time with her family and friends, she was loyal, loving, kind, generous and gracious. Despite many health challenges, Sharon handled each with resilience and grace.
Sharon had a tender heart and a strong spirit. Her faith was paramount, and her love of family and friends was steadfast. Sharon’s sense of humor was contagious as was her ability to be silly. Always having a quest for knowledge, she was well read and amazed us all with her ability to answer most of all questions on Jeopardy night after night, year after year.
Upon her entrance into her eternal life, there is no doubt that our dear Lord welcomed her saying, “Good job, good and faithful servant” while the angels sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Sharon’s warm heart and ever-presence will be missed. While we will miss her terribly, we celebrate that she will be fully healed and fully divine.
Sharon leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted and loving daughter, Jill Adamson, son, Brian Aho (Teri), loving bonus daughter, Dina Cunningham (John), loving brother, Wm. Dennis Poyfair (Pam) and loving sister, Jo Anne (Jodi) Hornbeck (Larry), and brother-in-law Nelson Aho (Marcia). She also leaves behind two granddaughters, Caitlyn Udell (Ron) and Paige Aho, a grandson, Erick Johnson (Amber), five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews whom she adored and several great nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Auntie. Sharon was greeted in heaven by her parents, her husband, brothers-in-law Russell and Wesley Aho and sisters-in-law Doris and Donna Aho, nephew, Andy Aho and beloved aunt and uncle, Doris and Rodman Sutton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at First United Methodist Church of Troy, located at 6363 S. Livernois, Troy, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Michigan Humane Society of Rochester, or First United Methodist Church of Troy.
