We are saddened to announce the passing of Shirley May Robertson, age 75, on May 6, 2026. Shirley was born on November 30, 1950, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up in Claremont, Ontario. Later she became a resident of Rochester, Michigan and Naples, Florida. A graduate of Pickering High School, Shirley attended the University of Michigan Flint. She began her working life with GM of Canada in Sales and Finance and became a homemaker when she started her family in the US.
Shirley met her husband, Ted, when they were teens and had neighboring cottages on Canal Lake, Ontario, Canada. They were married in 1971 and had 55 wonderful years together. Shirley and Ted always enjoyed cottaging and have one on Houghton Lake in Michigan today where they love spending time with their kids and grandkids. Her greatest joys in life were her family, traveling, music, and shopping. Ted and Shirley traveled throughout the world for more than 50 years. Music gave great pleasure to Shirley; she sang in her church choir in Canada and loved to play the piano. She loved listening to her brothers playing all types of music and really enjoyed dancing. Shirley was the most optimistic, warm and friendly person to everyone and always looked on the bright side of every situation. She had a lot of fun enjoying Book Club, Bible Study, and many spirited games of Bridge, Mahjong, and Euchre, and visiting with her many neighbors. Shirley loved participating in the Heritage Bay Corvette Club and enjoyed the many friends she made there. Animals loved Shirley, sensing in their own way her kind heart, and she loved them back, especially her son Michael and daughter-in-law Lauren’s pet dogs
Shirley is survived by her husband, James “Ted” Robertson; children Kristina (David) Hilber and Michael (Lauren) Robertson; grandchildren Christopher Hilber and Alexa Hilber; brothers Gord (Karen) Hodgson, Doug (Julie) Hodgson, and Ron (Wendy) Hodgson; sisters-in-law Sandy Robertson and Jan (Brian Benn) Robertson; and brother-in-law Glenn (Anita) Robertson, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by brother-in-law John Robertson; parents Russ and Edna Hodgson; and parents-in-law John and Frances Robertson.
Everyone who knew Shirley loved her and she will be sadly missed by all.
A perfect person, a perfect life, a perfect wife.
