Mr McGarry was one of the nicest  ever. As a parishioner of St Irenaeus I will never forget his kind words to my young son ( a young altar boy at the time!) week after week. When our son grew up, went off to college then 
Medical school, Mr McGarry  continued to ask about how he was doing.  I lost track of him and his lovely wife Charlotte as of late and did not see them at Mass.  I feel so fortunate to have known him and wish his wife and children my condolences. No doubt in my mind that Mr McGarry is in Heaven with Our Lord! I miss seeing his smiling face!  

I am forever grateful for the friendship Steve provided my father with.  He always called on birthdays (sometime accidentally calling me which led to our own special chats), periodically checked in and went out for meals. I know this friendship meant a lot to my father. Their friendship also meant a lot to me personally because it led to my own connection with Steve’s son Bill, whose generosity and tennis tutelage greatly impacted my own life. Steve was a wonderful man and he will be fondly remembered always.

Goodbye to my Mentor, Advisor, Jazz Lover, and Good Friend. May your spirit be released into the skies you so love to fly. Rest in heaven. My deepest condolences to Charlotte, Steve, Bill, and Margaret. And to those who celebrated his life, yet regret his departure.

Steve was an absolute gem of a neighbor - welcoming, kind, always looking out for us, generous, and my boys just loved him (and his gifts of candy 🤣)! He lived a vey full life and was always sharing the most amazing stories with us. He remembered what we told him about our kids and their interests. He remembered birthdays and visited us with well wishes. This loss is definitely felt by our family. Our court will not be the same without him and we feel so fortunate to have been his neighbors for the last 11 years. ❤️

Chuck and I moved in to UHills in 2017, across from Steve and Charlotte on Campus Ct. On our first day here, Steve came over and handed me a Rolodex card with his name and number on it, and asked me to fill out a blank card with my info. He informed me of the unofficial policy of the Court -- leave your carriage light on, because there are no street lights. I loved him from our first encounter. Here is what people in the sub may not know. I went to high school (Lutheran North) with children of some of the original residents of UHills, particularly residents of Campus Court (Tans, Kells, and the original owners of our house . . . the Schomakers). So I know that Steve and Charlotte watched my classmates grow and thrive and eventually leave the beautiful Campus Court. Then, later, I witnessed Steve and Charlotte extend the same kindness and candy 🙂 to our daughter. I have often sat in my front room and pondered all that Steve has witnessed and experienced, even just from his front porch. I broke the news to my daughter today. She was so sad. Never underestimate the impact of a single life. . . . RIP, Mr. McGarry. You will be missed on Campus Court.

I first met Steve’s dad over twenty years ago, and over the years, during my brief interactions with him, he was witty, insightful, and a pleasure to be around. I know he will be deeply missed, and we extend our sincere condolences and prayers to his family.
