Of Rochester Hills, passed away on June 21, 2018. Tamara was born in Ironwood, Michigan on December 5th, 1921 to parents Albert and Miriam Johns. She was the youngest of nine children-siblings Lamayda (Milhem), George, Matilda, Emma (Tomlinson), Linda (Harris), Laura (Burger), Genevieve (Brozo), and Theodore. Tamara was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leo Joseph LaBrecque. Tamara is survived by two children Helene (Joel) Ellis and Leon (Anne) LaBrecque. She also has seven grandchildren, Karla (Hahn), Guy, Jessie (Pilly), Amanda (Harrison), Arielle, Alexander, and Annabel. Her eight great-grandchildren are: Jordan, Guy Jr., Tyler, Ryan, Ben, Max, TJ, and Simon Leo.
Tamara was active and vibrant throughout her long and healthy life. She possessed a servant’s heart, ranging from being a server in multiple Detroit restaurants in the 1940s, 50s and 60s to volunteering at hospitals and participating in her community of Hazel Park. She was very active in politics and served as an aid to the head of the Michigan Senate and was also a presidential delegate in 1972. Tamara also served as a probation officer. She attended Marygrove College. Tamara was a supporter of education and the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial scholarship at the Hazel Park Promise Zone, c/o LJPR Financial Advisors, 5480 Corporate Drive, Ste. 100, Troy, MI 48098.
A celebration of life will be held at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester on July 11, 2018 at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow.
