Thomas “Tom” Machowski, a beloved member of the West Bloomfield, MI community, passed away on January 13, 2024, at the age of 72. Born in Detroit, MI, Tom was the son of Edward and Lillian Machowski. He left a lasting impact on those around him through his dedication to education, music, and community service.
Tom's journey in education began at Avondale High School, where he graduated in 1969. Eager to pursue higher education, he continued his academic journey at Western University and later attended Law School at DCL. Tom's professional journey led him to roles as a Claims Representative at Kemper Insurance and later at AAA, where he made valuable contributions to the industry.
On April 18, 1980, Tom united in marriage with his beloved wife, Bonita “Bonnie” Flayer who survives him. Beyond his professional life, Tom was a dedicated member of the Musicians Union and Farmington Community Band for many years. His love for music extended drove him to share it with others; he dedicated his time after work to hold private lessons, teaching children how to play the drums. Tom's involvement with school marching bands and drumlines showcased his passion for nurturing young talent and fostering a love for music. In addition to his musical pursuits, Tom had a keen interest in military history, with a special focus on World War II.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, and their sons, Ryan and Scott. His memory will be cherished by many loving cousins who were touched by his kindness and warmth. Tom is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian, his father, Ed, and his sister, Marsha.
A visitation for Tom will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, Michigan 48307, followed by a funeral at 12:00 p.m.
