Velma Mae Abston

Velma Mae (nee Sadler) Abston, of Shelby Township, Michigan arrived at the gates of heaven on July 3, 2024. Velma was born on September 21, 1920 to John and Serena Sadler of Woodbury, Tennessee. As the eldest daughter she assisted her parents in taking care of her younger siblings. As Velma grew up and started her own family she carried for her own children as a homemaker. As a faithful woman, she attended Memorial Baptist church and Calvary Baptist Church. In her older age her favorite thing to do was spend time talking with her neighbors.

She is survived by her children Jerry (Linda) Abston, Joan (The Late Robert) Brown, Bob (Phyllis Quasarano) Abston, Janet (Ray) Britt, and Debra (Darrell) Fickett; grandchildren Timothy Abston, Ronald Abston, Scott Brown, Jill Homrockey, Michelle Winowych, Erik Britt, Holly Britt, Randy Britt, Amber Nardecchia, and Chaz Battice; Great grandchildren Katie, Declan, Joshua, Gabriel, Brook, Olivia, Michael, Tyler, Rebecca, Alex, Derrek, Jacob, Ashley, Brook, Grace, Weston, Liam, Jace, Hannah, Jade, Abigail; and one great – great grandchild Ava.

A visitation will be held for Velma on Saturday, July 6, from 1-5 PM at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester, Michigan. A funeral will be held during the visitation at 4 PM.
