He was born in Olkusz, Poland on July 17, 1939 to Peter and Stefanie Kuz and was of Ukrainian ancestry. After immigrating to Detroit in 1947, Bill later graduated from University of Detroit High School and attended the University of Detroit, where he received his B.A. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Finance. Bill went on to have a career in public and corporate accounting.
He met Maureen Kelly in 1966, they wed the following year, and were married for 53 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, four children and their spouses: Jennifer (Timothy) Yang, Stephanie (Scott) Cote, Melissa Kuz, and Adam Kuz; and grandchildren Blake and Natalie Cote, Aidan and Amelie Yang, and Liam Kuz. He's also survived by his many cousins and extended family.
Bill loved his Detroit sports teams and Michigan college teams and was in a house divided, having children who attended the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and University of Detroit Mercy. The team he cheered for depended on which child was around.
His love for his family was apparent in all he did: Enjoying time together outdoors, on the beach, and in sharing his love and knowledge of gardening and growing flowers over the years.
Making people laugh and bringing a smile and joy to others was always so fulfilling for Bill. This was evident in the laughter he could evoke from those around him (and in those little giggles from his grandkids!). His unique sense of humor was ever present with the goofiest of jokes, even with the stranger in line at the grocery store.
Bill was one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed.
