Carol Ann Preiss

Carol was born in Rochester, NY in 1946. Started working for the State of New York in the late 1960’s, and retired from the Department of Corrections in 2002. She had worked at Wende Correctional Facility, and became the Deputy Superintendent at Orleans Correctional Facility in the Dept. of Administration in the 1990’s, from which she would retire.

She was a member of and enjoyed being part of the Orleans Correctional Facility (OCF) Pistol team. She was a member of the International Toastmistress Club, ITC, later known as International Training in Communications for the majority of her adult life. She held every office at every level very often multiple times. Upon retiring, she served as the Organization’s International President. She was a mentor to many of the club members. She traveled around the world for conferences and visiting clubs.

Carol was an avid “Trekkie”, Neil Diamond fan, and a lover of traveling and gambling which she often did with her sister, Shirley, and close, dear friend Louise. She also loved to spend time at her winter home in Las Vegas, NV.

She is survived by her brothers, William (Katie), Richard (Monica Rasmussen) Preiss; her cousin, Kathy (Peter) Clark; her nieces, Mary Gaesser (whom she lived with and was her caregiver), Karen (Linda) Gaesser, Christine (Seth) Clock; her nephews, Michael (Kathy), Edward (Valerie), James (Rona), Daniel, Ronald (Robin Neal) Gaesser, Benjamin (Lynn), Andrew (Evie) and Jonathon (Nicole) Preiss; several cousins, great nieces and nephews, and her canine companion River.

She was the daughter of and is predeceased by Albert and Lou (Catherine) Preiss; her sister, Shirley (Walter) Gaesser; and uncle John P. (Elaine) Vallely.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home of Alvah Halloran & Son, 2125 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY on Saturday, April 5, 2025, where a memorial service will be held at 12:30pm at the Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in the fall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or your favorite Animal Rescue.
