Glenn R. House, 97, passed into his eternal house on Thursday, October 14, 2016 in Rochester, NY. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Janice Whiteman House, the love of his life and beloved father to his three daughters, Nancy Jane House, Beverly Jean (Fred) Cooper and Audrey Joan (the late Joseph) Impellizzeri.
Born March 31, 1919 and raised in the center of the universe, Groton, NY, he was the youngest son of the late Lloyd Gilbert and Alice Jane Exton House with his sister, Elizabeth Viola House (Albert) Burnham and brothers Lloyd Robert (Helen and Earlene) House and infant Gilbert Exton who have all preceded him.
Living in Groton, NY with his family, he managed his high school baseball team and worked as a soda jerk. Graduating from Groton High School in 1937, he moved to Rochester, NY to attend Mechanics Institute, now known as Rochester Institute of Technology, R.I.T., studying optical instruments and tool design to become an Instrument Maker. He was a Class "A" instrument man in the Experimental Section specializing in construction assembly and repair of mechanical instruments such as collimators. He worked from drawings and blue prints, used hand tools, set up and operated engine lathes, milling machines sharpeners and grinders. He worked at .0002" tolerance. Glenn attended school and worked alternative months at Bausch and Lomb Optical Company in Rochester, NY from 1940 to May 1944. For 3 years, he went to college and worked alternate months.
Dad enlisted and duly registered October 16, 1940 in Forest Lawn, Webster, Monroe NY. His date of induction was May 29, 1944 in Fort Dix, NJ from 463 Sawyer Avenue Rochester, NY. Drafted for World War II, laying down his life for the peace of his family and country in the Army Air Corp, he flew in a B-29, nicknamed SlowMotion, as a (CFC) remote control turret mechanic gunner (580). Stationed in Saipan, he flew over Iwo Jima dropping leaflets warning civilians of future bombings. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge April 16, 1946. Dad's separation discharging address was 354 Ravenwood Avenue, Rochester, NY.
He still remembered, and if asked, he would repeat his Air Corp organization:

Returning to Rochester after WWII, Glenn followed his brother’s encouragement was employed for 35 years at the Eastman Kodak Company in the Apparatus Division to supervise the original model construction of new cameras and projectors. From blueprint drawings by his engineering co-worker and long time friend, Walter Taylor, he created by hand the models for all the pre-production Kodak Instamatic Cameras. Some of his craftsmanship has been displayed in the George Eastman House collection of cameras. Kodak holds many patents for his workmanship. He occasional made a "government projects" for his family using his machinery at work.
His favorite pass times were traveling, go cart racing, volunteering for the Kodak sponsored LPG tournaments, paint by number acrylic and oil painting, model vehicle and B-29 construction, flying his bright yellow model airplane, cross word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, watching sport car racing and football. He spent many hours creating latch hook rugs for his family.
Glenn was a member of the First Congressional Church of Groton, New York. A quiet, peaceful man and deacon at Genesee Baptist Church for over 40 years, then transferring to First Baptist Church of Chili during his retirement years. He surrendered his life to Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 97.
He leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren, Brayden Joseph, Sophie Rae, Benjamin Ryan, Smith in Rochester, NY, 3 grandchildren, Clint Fritz Cooper of Etowah, TN, Ariana Nicole (Branden) Smith of Hilton, NY, Alissa Marie Impellizzeri of Hamlin, NY, 3 daughters, Nancy Jane House of Frederick, MD, Beverly Jean (Fred) Cooper of Athens, TN and Audrey Joan (the late Joseph) Impellizzeri, and the love of his life, Janice. Also many family members in and out of New York State. Our family would like to express our love & appreciation to Cheryl Busch, his niece for the tender care she is giving.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the funeral home of ALVAH HALLORAN & SON, 2125 Chili Avenue, Rochester, NY 14624. The Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held immediately after the reception from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
