James was born on October 5, 1974 in Pohang City, South Korea to parents, Bryan and Esther Oh, the first son of 3 children. He moved to Hawaii when he was 6 years old and spent the majority of his life in his beloved San Jose, California before moving to Rochester, NY. He graduated from Cupertino High School and San Jose State University. He played saxophone in marching band and became the drum major.
James had a joy for life that radiated from within and was a big kid himself. His goofy, kindhearted spirit could never be replaced. He was a protector and always made sure those around him were taken care of. He was a hard worker that never complained and always went above and beyond.
Some of his favorite things included cooking and BBQing to feed others, musicals, watching movies, ketchup, Coke Zero, ramen, eggrolls, Costco, traveling, cruises, and trying new experiences, but most importantly, spending time with family. He especially loved bringing a smile to people’s faces with his Christmas light display. Above all, his favorite role was being an uncle to his loving nieces.
He is survived by his longtime love, Kim; his mother, Esther; mother in law, Lisa; siblings, Jane and Jason; brother in law, Washington; sister in law, Linda; nieces, Naomi and Skylah; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation, Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5-7pm at Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, 2125 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY 14624, where a prayer service will be held immediately following at 7pm.
