James A. Sands
February 24, 1944 – January 4, 2019
James "Jim" A. Sands, of Rochester, entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2019, at the age of 74, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Carol Flesch Sands; and his children, James “Jamie” (Kelly) Sands and Jennifer Sands; as well as his sister, Darlenne Schibler, and several nieces and nephews. Jim retired after 35 years with the Rochester City Fire Department, where he proudly worked both as a frontline fire fighter and as a fire safety official.
He volunteered his time with Artists Unlimited, Inc., and also held a board position with the organization. He was a member of the Rochester Philatelic Association and an avid woodworker.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 10th, from 4-7PM at the Funeral Home of ALVAH HALLORAN & SON, 2125 Chili Ave., Gates. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, Jan. 11th, at St. Monica’s Church, 34 Monica St. at the corner of Genesee St. Entombment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Jim Sands was a hero to me as a child.A true leader, my Cub Scout leader and a true friend. He taught me that hard work and family were the greatest things on earth. Rest now brother . Heaven just got another great man by his side. Love, Your friend. Jon
