At the age of 11, Joyce moved to Nyack, New York, where she grew up and made lifelong friendships that remained dear to her heart. She spent many wonderful years as a resident of Rockland County before moving to the Greater Rochester area, where she continued to live a life filled with faith, love, and kindness.
Throughout her life, Joyce worked in several caregiving and service roles, always demonstrating compassion, patience, and grace. She served as a caregiver at Letchworth Village, a medical packager at Lederle Laboratories, and as a private caregiver for disabled individuals. Her work reflected her deep commitment to helping others and her belief in treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Joyce was a woman of many gifts. A talented seamstress, she poured creativity into every garment she made crafting beautiful dresses, custom pieces, and alterations for family, friends, and members of her community. Her artistry extended beyond her sewing machine. It was evident in her sense of style, her home, and the way she carried herself with elegance and confidence.
She was also known for her exceptional cooking. Joyce’s home was the heart of family gatherings, especially during the holidays when her delicious meals, famous pies, and warm hospitality filled the room with laughter and love. She took great joy in seeing her loved ones gathered together.
Her faith in God was unwavering. Joyce believed deeply in the power of prayer and often reminded those around her that faith is the solution to all things. She lived by example, with a generous spirit, radiant smile, and a heart full of love for her family, friends, and her Lord.
Joyce is survived by her children, Suzette Burton and Barry Burton, and her daughter-in-law, Louisette Burton. She was the proud grandmother of Alexandrine, Tatiyana, Brian, Brandon, and Leonard, and a loving great-grandmother to Azrial.
She will be remembered as a strong, resilient, and caring woman, a mother whose love knew no bounds, a friend who always showed up, and a woman whose warmth, creativity, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
