He left us on March 25th, at the age of 95. His long life meant many others passed before him, including his beloved wife, Helen, and four of his five siblings: Donald, Robert, Lesley, and Jane. He leaves behind his children, Richard W. Coleman (Lisa), Kathy L. Wilson, and Pamela D. Rogers (Wayne); grandchildren, Scot Wilson (Cherylyn), Carolyn Coleman, Eric Wilson (Mickey), Michael Coleman, and Jessindae Rogers; great-grandchildren Colby, Garett, and Whitney Wilson; and sister, Mary Lou Pascucci.
Born on July 31, 1920, to Ward A. and Caroline (Foos) Coleman in Rochester NY, he was a beloved man from our Greatest Generation. Richard Clarence Coleman is a name that will forever be defined by his handsome good-natured smile, the singular love of his life, Helen, his loving devotion to his children and grandchildren, and his faith in the grace of God that carried him throughout his life.
His story is so similar to many of his generation – sacrificing self for the greater good of family and country. His father died when he was 14, and it was in the middle of the Great Depression. He left school at 16 to help his mother and siblings survive, working for FDR’s Civilian Conservation Corps at Hamlin Beach State Park, where he lost his eye in a quarry accident. He served stateside in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator. After 31 years at DuPont, he retired with Helen to Florida in 1978. He returned to Rochester in 1988 when his only love and wife of 42 years passed away. He has enjoyed being here with his family ever since, and we’ve been so grateful for his company all these years.
All our welcome to join the family for his Funeral Mass at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 16th at St. Kateri-St. Margaret Mary on Rogers Pkwy in Irondequoit. Private internment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
