Shirley was born in 1935 in Cumberland, Md., a daughter of Charles Lee Wolford and Louise Danton Lee. She was raised in Cumberland and Baltimore before moving to Detroit, Mich., where she graduated from John J. Pershing High School. Then she worked for the Rochester-based Neisner Bros., where she met and married Donald Hayden.
In the years that followed, she and Don raised their family while moving from Detroit to St. Louis; Sioux City and Spencer, Iowa; St. Petersburg, Fla.; and finally to Rochester. Shirley and her family lived for many years in Rochester and the North Canton, Ohio, area. She worked in accounting and office management for several businesses in Rochester and North Canton. Later in life she moved to Prescott, Ariz., then returned to North Canton.
Shirley dedicated her life to her family and the Catholic Church, and she enjoyed a lifelong appreciation of music. She sang with the choirs of St. Helen and St. John the Evangelist churches in Rochester, and St. Paul’s in North Canton. She was especially proud of being a longtime blood donor. She donated untold gallons of blood over the years after she learned she had a rare blood component. Shirley was known for her infectious laugh and always had a knack for finding fun at family gatherings. As the family matriarch, Shirley held together a big group of rambunctious loved ones.
Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband Don Hayden, her second husband Roy Pinaire, her daughter Theresa Hayden Stack and son-in-law David Stack, and her sisters Carole Pellegrino and Helen Saville. She is survived by seven children: Bill (Susan) Hayden, Bob (Marzena) Hayden, John (Kathie) Hayden, Frank (Noreen) Hayden, Patrick Hayden, Greg (Tanya) Hayden, and Anne (Bob) Fagioli. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
