Yvonne Fay Cummings was born to Levi Cummings and Josephine Fenton on April 18, 1942 in Cockpit, Clarendon, Jamaica. She gave birth to two daughters and raised them in her home parish until she immigrated to the United States in 1978. The family settled in Rochester, NY, where Yvonne lived until her passing on June 9, 2026.
While living in the US, Yvonne earned her General Education Diploma and pursued her lifelong dream to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She devoted 26 years of service to Rochester Psychiatric Center. She valued education deeply and took pride in her accomplishments, always attributing her success to faith and focus. Yvonne was also a member of Genesee Baptist Church.
Yvonne was an avid gardener and delighted family, friends, and patrons with her signature Jamaican rum cake. (Miss) Fern, as she was affectionately known, wished to be remembered for her intentionality in caring for her loved ones, even when she couldn’t be present with them—and, indeed, she will be.
Yvonne F. Cummings is survived by her daughters, Corleta Cummings and Allison Goulbourne; her grandchildren, Keilicia Ennour (Cordell), Naricia Goulbourne, and Khari Goulbourne; her great granddaughter, Lehana Ennour; her devoted nieces Mervalyn Blake and Carmen Lawrence; her beloved nephew, Melvis Cummings (Dian); her dear cousin, Dudley Fraser; her goddaughters, Ayana Gordon and Vivica Smith; ten siblings and a host of cherished kin. She was welcomed into Paradise by her mother, Josephine Fenton; her maternal grandmother, Cecelia Allen; and her great grandsons, Yahya and Issa Ennour.
A celebration of life will be held at White Haven Memorial Park on June 19, 2026 at noon. The family will host a light reception immediately following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider making a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America.
