Biagio “Gene” Catalano, 81, of Koppel, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 2, 2010. He was born May 21, 1929 in New Brighton, PA, son of the late Salvatore and Gioseppina (Ivaldi) Catalano. Gene proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he began a long and rewarding career as an electrician. Gene retired from Moltrip Steel as the Electrical Superintendent. He had also been employed by WBVP as a remote control engineer.
A person of deep faith, Gene has served as a Past Director of the Beaver Valley Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International and a co-founder of Steelworkers for Jesus. He was a member of Word Alive Church, Ellwood City.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 62 years: Mary (Pander) Catalano; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Michael J. Catalano, Los Angeles, CA; Scott and Kristen Catalano, Fombell, PA; his daughter and son-in-law: Catherine Marie and Homer Smith, Nashville, TN; four grandchildren: Rebecca Ripple, Ashley Usselman, Andrew Scott Catalano and Allison Catalano; four great grandchildren: Alexis, McKenzie, Alai and Malachi; numerous cousins here in The States, as well as in Italy.
Friends will be received Tuesday, September 7, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Clifford Reynolds, officiating. Private interment will follow in the J.F.K. Memorial Garden at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
