Charles F. Davis, age 87, of New Brighton, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Heritage Valley Beaver. Born February 8th, 1936, in Monaca, he was the son of the late Frank W. and Gwenith (Schoaf) Davis. Charles was a 1955 graduate of Rochester High School where he was an outstanding athlete in multiple sports. He attended the University of Findlay in Ohio on a football scholarship. In 1956, he was drafted by the United States Army, where he served as a Private First Class / Medical Corpsman in Germany. After his honorable discharge, Charles worked for PBI Industries as a pipefitter. Upon PBI Industries closure, he worked for Veolia Water until his retirement. In the early 1970's, Charles coached Pop Warner football for the New Brighton community. He was a member of the Rochester VFW, New Brighton American Legion, and the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca. Charles was a gregarious man with a fun loving personality. A lifelong Penn State and Pittsburgh sports fan, he enjoyed watching and attending events. In addition, he loved hunting, camping, a good nap, Louis L'Amour books, instant coffee, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, a well-done steak, Chevy's, John Wayne and anything Western (horsesh*t and gunsmoke), and cold beer on the front porch.
Charles favorite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their school and sporting events, encouraging their mischief, watching old movies with them, and as they grew into young adults, giving them his life lesson advice. Charles was a beloved father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; Loletta 'Weety' Davis in 2021; one sister; Linda Davis, and two brothers in law; Richard Burg and Jack Reynolds.
Surviving are his sons, Mark (Angela) Davis, of Richmond, VA, and Christopher Davis, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughters, Erin (Mark) Krut, South Beaver Township, and Jennifer Davis, New Brighton; grandchildren, Austin (Julie) Owens, Hannah, Abigail and Emma Davis, Jordan, Jared and Evan Krut. Also surviving is one sister; Carol Burg, a special cousin Nancy Hartling, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received on Thursday, December 14th, 2023 from 3-7pm and funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15th 11:00am at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
