Donald Eugene Barber

June 3, 1951November 16, 2020

Donald E. Barber, 69, of Center Township, passed away suddenly Monday, November 16, 2020. He was born June 3, 1951, in Rochester, PA., to the late John “Skip” and Isabelle (McNear) Barber.

Donnie was a 1969 graduate of Rochester Area High School, Rochester, PA. From there he started working in the tin mill at J&L Steel Mill, Aliquippa, PA until its closure. He continued to tirelessly support his young family and opened a convenience store, Deer Lane Deli, in Rochester, PA, from 1984-1999. He then took on a machinist position at Hussy Copper, Leetsdale PA, from which he retired in 2017. Donnie played bocce for Armando’s and loved pick-up football games, riding his motorcycles and watching football with his friends and family. He had a sense of humor like no other. From his hugs to squeeze the breath out of you, to his “pap manual” that allowed him to do and say anything to tease his beloved grandkids, Donnie was full of love, dedication and hard work. Although his retirement years were full of medical challenges, he never once allowed them to slow him down. He dedicated his time to his kids and grandkids to make sure they always made it school, sports events, or work.

He was dedicated to his faith that was supported by his church, Aliquippa Christian Assembly, Aliquippa PA where he has so much love and friendships I know he will never forget.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Denise (Dawson) Barber; three children and their spouses, Kimberly (Joshua) Maley, Wayne (Margaret) Barber, and Kristi (Brian) Hamilton; one uncle, George “Butch” (Cathy) Barber; one sister, Linda (Joe) Corbin; two brothers-in-law, Keith (Roberta) Dawson, Brian Dawson; one sister-in- law, Gail Dawson; ten grandchildren, Kyleigh (Brad) Peterson, Grant Barber, Justin Maley, Jaden Maley, Gabrielle Barber, Liam Maley, Ashton Maley, Alyssa Maley, Brody Hamilton, and Teagan Hamilton; four special nephews, James (Sheila) Heimann, and Ryan Dawson, Kevin and Chris (Aneliese); four special nieces, Nichole (Jeremy) Egger, Kyleigh Dawson, Ashleigh Dawson, and Kelli Corbin; his special friend Dennis “Hoss” Smith; and numerous other nephew, nieces and great- nephew and great-nieces that he held special to his heart.

A private remembrance will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 with his pastor/friend, Jack Robison, officiating. A public celebration of Donnie’s life for extended family and friends will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the SAUL GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68 Rochester (Adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.)

I spent a lot of time in the 90’s at Deer Lane Deli with Don and his family. I was the mail carrier for the area and took my breaks there at the store where they all treated me like family! So sorry to hear about your loss.

My pap was a great and selfless man. I loved walking down to the house and sitting on the porch. We would sit there, eating ice cream, watching the birds come and go, listening to his favorite station, and just relaxing. Every time I left, he would always jokingly say, “come back when you can stay longer.” I wish I could’ve stayed forever. He always made everyone’s day so much brighter, including mine. It won’t be the same without him but I know, he will be watching us from up above. Rest In Peace, Pap

Donnie had a smile like no other! You had to smile if you spent any time with him. He was always spreading happiness. Growing up, Donnie always called me squirrely, instead of Shirley. He will be missed by so many.

What a beautiful family. While Donnie may not be on this earth any longer, his kindness is that touched so many.
Very much heartfelt love for you all. May peace overcome knowing he is in an extravagant place.
