Born June 10, 1930, in South Heights, PA, he was a son of the late John and Ruth (Sullivan) McCoy. A veteran of the US Navy, Dale proudly served on a submarine. He drove tractor trailers, hauling steel across the United States and Canada for Bethlehem Steel until it closed. He continued to drive trucks until he retired from Holman Trucking at age 69. Dale was the last surviving original member of the Trophy Hunter's Club, established in the early fifties. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors--hunting, fishing, rafting, sledding, snowboarding, and even gold panning in Alaska. He spent hours walking his dog and loved woodworking. His carved Santa and reindeer display was a Christmastime favorite along Route 51.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Angie (Caton) McCoy, two brothers: John and Kenneth McCoy; and three sisters: Eileen Watson, Judith Dunn, and Nancy Mason. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law: Donald Dale (Jr) and Lorrie McCoy of Hopewell Township; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Debra and David Shipman of Monaca; Ruth Ann Austin of Kentucky; Annette and David Thompson of Selah, WA; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Shirley "Bunny" Caton; and his brother, Joseph “Jody” McCoy.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 20, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Rout 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum), where a funeral service will be held Tues, May 21, at 11am. Private entombment will follow.
Dale McCoy, his mischievous grin, infectious laugh, and hilarious stories will be sadly missed by his friends and family. His family is eternally grateful for the wonderful care he received at Cambridge Village and from Heartland Hospice.
