Dorothy Jean Ketterer, 86, of Daugherty Township, surrounded by her loving family, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, September 26, 2011. She was born September 27, 1924 in Rochester, daughter of the late Lester Wesley and Mary Emma (Robinson) Smith.
Dorothy Jean was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Marion Hill Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Naomi Chapter #55 O.E.S. (Order of the Eastern Star), Monaca, serving as a Past Worthy Matron, and involved with the Rainbows. Dorothy Jean served as a Girl Scout Leader for a number of years and was also an auxiliary member of the Daugherty Township Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Theron Ashley Ketterer on March 17, 2003 and her son-in-law: Kenneth Ginther, Sr. and her brother: Lester Smith, Jr.
Dorothy Jean is survived by one son: Gary Lee Ketterer, Daugherty Township; two daughters and a son-in-law: Linda Ginther, Daugherty Township; Mary (Richard) Reich, Pittsburgh; eleven grandchildren: Tammy (Mark) Kaufold, Debbie Ketterer, Richard Ginther, Kenneth (Marty) Ginther, Jr., Gary (Mary) Ketterer, Larry Ginther, Corey (Fiancée Tiffany Mooney) Ginther, Sheila (Jim) Matragus, Lenore Smith, William (Cathy) Nahod, and Michael (Mary Jo) Nahod; fourteen great grandchildren: Shannon (Erik) McBride, Mark (Beth) Kaufold, Jr., Josh Ginther, Bradley Ginther, Kenneth Ginther, III, Brandon Ginther, Jared Ginther, Timothy Darroch, Sarah Mayfield, Caitlin Mayfield, Teah Matragus, Casey Smith, Randi Smith, and Alex Nahod; four great great grandchildren: Tyler and Chloe Kaufold, Dakota and Cheyenne McBride; and her sister-in-law: JoAnn Smith, Beaver; many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today, from 2-4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Marion Hill Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 4607 Rochester Road, New Brighton, PA 15066 with The Reverend James Krouse, officiating. The public is kindly asked to go directly to the church on Thursday morning.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Pastor Jim Krouse, the staff of Concordia Home Health and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, all for the kind and compassionate care.
