

Gary Michael “Mike” Murphy, 66, of New Brighton, passed on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, and under the compassionate care of Family Hospice. He was born May 6, 1946 in Rochester, son of the late Raymond T. and Hazel C. (Porter) Murphy. Known as “Mike” by family and friends, he was a graduate of Rochester High School, Class of 1964. Mike was a member of the football and track teams during his high school days.
Throughout his adult life, Mike was passionate about New Brighton Youth Athletics. He always felt it a privilege to encourage and mentor young athletes. He supported their programs while his children were involved, and beyond, whether by fundraising or coaching. He managed and coached the Pony and Colt Baseball Teams. Mike was the Treasurer of the New Brighton Booster Club for 15 years.
He was a faithful and active member of the New Brighton Eagles F.O.E. 3718 where he had served as both the secretary and a trustee. He fostered and enjoyed many friendships during his years as a member and officer.
Mike also enjoyed the family camp in Forest County near Tionesta. He appreciated the quiet refuge and family time spent relaxing. Mike was a Catholic by Faith and a member of the Holy Family Parish, New Brighton. He was also quite proud of his Irish heritage. Mike had been employed with Babcock & Wilcox, Koppel and later was the Maintenance Superintendent for Koppel Steel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Ronald J. Carcaise and Albert “Buddy” Carcaise, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Nancy (Carcaise) Murphy; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Peter M. and Christine Murphy, Peter’s Township; Douglas R. and Kylene Murphy, Carlsbad, CA; Jon P. Murphy, Carnegie; one daughter: Christine Murphy, Corona, CA; five grandchildren who he adored and cherished being called “Pap” by: Brendan, Addison, Caly, Julia, Ayla; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Thomas and Laura Murphy, Rochester; Graham and Sherri Murphy, Palm Coast, FL; one sister: Cynthia Trimble, East Palestine, OH; his brother-in-law: Richard Carcaise and wife Phyllis, Vanport; two sisters-in-law; Phyllis Vukich, Rochester; Mary Jane Crumm, Carnegie; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday at Holy Family Parish, 525 7th Avenue, New Brighton. (The public is respectfully asked to go directly to the church on Monday morning.) Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
