DAUGHERTY TOWNSHIP
George Postupac, 88, of Daugherty Township, passed away from a brief, unexpected illness on Thursday, September 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 5, 1929 in Freedom, son of the late George Postupac and Mary (Barnick) Postupac Fedyski. George proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII.
After his honorable discharge, he returned home and began working at the Aliquippa Works of Jones and Laughlin Steel. A few years later George secured employment as a machinist at Westinghouse and retired from there with over 35 years of service.
In his younger days he enjoyed golfing and playing cards with family and friends. Loving the outdoors and being a hands-on guy, he tended to a garden that included vegetables and flowers. His attention to detail served him well as he became a self-taught woodworker. George was very creative, anything he could conceive he could build. In his leisure, he occasionally liked the excitement of a quick trip to Mountaineer.
Family was most important to George. After the early passing of his dear wife Joyce (Cozad) Postupac in 1986, he was even more determined to be a loving and guiding influence in the life of his daughter and sons. He was a dad who led by inspirational example and exactness. George was proud of their every endeavor and accomplishment, and so too of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by a brother Pete and sister Anna who passed in early childhood; and his adult sisters: Helen Young and Mary Nichol.
George is survived by four children and their spouses: Merry Beth (Joe) Sylvester, Chippewa Township; Thomas (Janet) Postupac, Export, PA; Richard (April) Postupac, Daugherty Township; Dr. Robert (Terri) Postupac, Monaca; ten grandchildren: Randy (Ashley) Sylvester; Dr. Jesse (Dr. Andrea) Sylvester; Shane (fiancée Teryn Johnke) Sylvester; Cody and Karen Postupac; Lucas Postupac; Janis (Tyler) Aulds; Faith Postupac (fiancé Scott Jacobs); Jeanna and Jared Postupac; four great grandchildren: Reagan, Landon, Hudson, Tyde and a great granddaughter expected in December; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Ann Postupac, Zelienople; Patty (Gary) Ankney of Tennessee; son Robert’s extended family: Randy (Alisha) Taormina and their son Gino; Tara (Justin) Bickerstaff and their children: Alexandra “Lexie”, Connor, Zach, Addisyn and Emersyn; Christie (Justin) LaPearle and their son Alexander; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and their loving families.
Friends will be received on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
