

Tom Applequist, 72, of Economy Borough, died in his home on Sunday, October 19, surrounded by his family. He was born in Sewickley, Pa., in 1953 to Henry and Mary Lou Applequist. Tom attended Ambridge Area School District before studying at Penn State University. He then made a career at Tri County Management.
Tom was active in his community serving 26 years on the planning commission and as a Township Supervisor in New Sewickley Township. After moving to Economy Borough, he was on the Economy Borough Council. He was active in his church, Oak Grove Lutheran, for many years when he started and served in the Oak Grove Community Garden. The Community Garden donates fresh produce every year to local charities.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Lou Applequist and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kelly Applequist, 3 children, Aaron Applequist (Rhonda Castellan), Ben Applequist (Emily), Alyssa Applequist Leasure (Chris) and 2 grandchildren, Brayden and Nora Leasure who loved their Pap Pap. He is also survived by a brother, Rod (Robin) Applequist, and a sister, Kathy (John) Hettish, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 1-8PM at the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home, 273 Route 68, Rochester, PA 15074. Additional Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 10am until the time of funeral services at 11am at Oak Grove Lutheran Church,432 Harkins Mille Road, Zelienople, PA 16063.
