Joan A. Brown DAUGHERTY TOWNSHIP

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil" Psalm 23 her favorite prayer. On March 5, 2018 Joan left the living to be with her beloved Brownie surrounded by her loving family after battling several illnesses over the past three years. She loved her family and all who crossed her path felt blessed to have known her. Joan was born December 14, 1930 in Sewickley to the late James and Edna Yant of Coraopolis. She attended Cornell schools and graduated in 1949. On August 19th, 1950, she married the love of her life Martin T. Brown of Sewickley. They lived in Sewickley and began to build their family having three children before buying a house in New Brighton in 1958 and adding one more child after. Joan started as a teller at Union National Bank in 1966 and that began a 37 year career climbing the ladder in a male dominated industry all the way to Vice President of Century National Bank. A bank manager and loan officer for most of her career there were many stories of people she helped and employees who loved her. She took great pride and joy in her job and truly loved what she did. Of all the work accolades she received they were a distant second to what she considered her greatest accomplishment, her family. They are left to mourn her passing but carry on knowing they could not have been more fortunate to have more loving and caring parents than Joan and Brownie. Surviving her are a sister: Peggy Ferrell of New Brighton; Sisters-in-law: Jean Brown Hamlet, N.C. and Nancy Brown Coraopolis; her children: Marge (Jerry) Cooper of Endicott, N.Y.; James (Linda) Brown of New Brighton; Dave (Gail) Brown of Scottdale; and Ed (Carol) Brown of Ellwood City. Her Grandchildren who she loved beyond words: Tom (Kelly) Rombold, Jake (Michelle) Rombold, Erin Cooper, Stacey Cooper, Mike Cooper, Andy Brown, Jenny Brown, Ben (Melissa) Brown, Brandi (John) Askey and Emily Brown. Nine great grandchildren: Matt, Joe, Ali, Ethan, Mason, Madison, Jett, Kayden and Kaleb; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her furry friends that made her smile.
