Joann Martucci, age 67, of New Galilee, passed away on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, with her family by her side, following complications from lung cancer—after bravely beating breast cancer just last year.
Born, August 14, 1957, in New Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Catherine (Brinker) Martucci.
Family was paramount to Joann, her own needs always came second to the well-being of those she loved. In her last weeks, her only wish was to be surrounded by family and their love. This abundant love and devotion spilled over to animals, from her own many cherished pets—ranging from cats to cows—to the countless stray and wild creatures she quietly cared for. If she spotted a cat near the woods, she’d leave food behind—just as she wouldn’t hesitate to stop traffic to help a snapping turtle cross the road. She never turned away an animal in need, and some might say she loved them more than people.
When doctors at Presby asked her about her hobbies, Joann said she enjoyed cleaning—a testament to her caring nature and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. She loved decorating for the holidays, putting on a dazzling light show for the neighbors. More recently, she began adding to her Halloween display, making it a little more spookier each year.
However, her favorite time of year was Spring and Summer. You could find her landscaping, arranging statues and fountains around the yard, or tending to her flowers. She’d spend time by her pond, making sure everything was in harmony as she listened to the peaceful sounds. And sometimes, she’d simply sit on the patio, watching the hummingbirds, while the stray cats wandered over, drawn to her warmth, as if they knew she was a kind soul.
Joann's idea of a vacation was doing the same chores she did at home, in a different location. She loved to go to the family camp in Tionesta, where she cooked brunch and dinner, cleaned up after everyone, and pretended that doing it in the woods somehow made it more fun. She loved warm places, especially the beach—whether it was staying at the Bayfront in Erie or the lakefront at Cedar Point, where it wasn't for the rides, but for the laughter of her family, happiest taking it all in.
Regardless of the weather, she never missed an auction, even turning her knack for finding deals into a successful small business flipping appliances and furniture. No matter what though, you’d always find her in front of the TV when the Steelers were on. Her favorite players were Ben, Troy, and Hines, but remained loyal to the team no matter who they trotted out.
Joann’s selflessness shone through in every role she took on. She spent many years as a waitress, always going above and beyond to make others feel cared for. More recently, she worked as a housekeeper for three wonderful families, creating a sense of comfort and cleanliness in their homes. But her greatest pride came from her time as a certified nurse’s aide—a path she pursued after caring for her own mother. Her compassion and warmth provided comfort to so many who needed it most.
She is survived by two daughters; Chastity Martucci, Tammy Bailey, one son, Phillip (Joanna) Martucci-Egan; her husband, Timothy Egan; three grandchildren, Emily Bailey, Haley Bailey and Noah Bozza; and three sisters, Anna Martucci, Connie Poling, and Cathy Kompardo. Also surviving is a niece, Nikki Woods, a great niece, Katie Woods and a great nephew, Tyler Woods.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Freddrick Martucci, her father in law, Phillip Palmer Egan, and her brother in law, Phillip Thomas Egan
