

Lawrence G. Cartwright, 70, of Chippewa Twp., Beaver County, passed away peacefully August 28, 2016. He was born October 8, 1945 in Rochester, PA, son of the late Lawrence and Ogla Cartwright. Lawrence proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972.
He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with BS, MS and PhD degrees; and in 1978 began his long and rewarding career with CMU as a Civil Engineer Lab Director and Professor. He enthusiastically served there until June of this year. Mr. Cartwright was recognized with several teaching awards as he inspired many engineering students throughout his teaching career at CMU. He was known and respected for his inventive and unique civil engineering projects. Most recently, in May of 2016, he was recognized by the Andrew Carnegie Society for his numerous contributions to the University.
Mr. Cartwright loved and enjoyed his Scottie dogs, woodworking, sculpting, cooking and was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
He will be sadly missed by his sister and brother-in-law: Marilyn and Dennis Cartwright –Montecalvo; and his CMU family with whom he shared high regard and mutual love. He was an Uncle to many.
In honor of his request, private interment arrangements are by the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester. PA
