Born April 9, 1957 in New Brighton, he was the only son of the late LaVerne “Pete” Cron and Margaret I. Simmons-Cron.
Marty was a 1975 graduate of Freedom Area High School, where he met the love of his life, Mary L. Spagnoli, in the seventh grade. They were married November 6, 1976. Marty’s love for Mary was endless; even after her passing in 2007, Marty spoke of his love for her each day.
He was a member of Divine Grace Parish (formally St. Gregory) in Zelienople. He was retired from the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 1058 and Bruce & Merrilees electric Company, with over 40 years of service. Marty was a skilled backhoe operator and loved moving dirt. He learned from the best by working alongside his dad for 10 years with C.D. McDonald Inc., a union subcontractor for Bell Telephone. Marty loved life and enjoyed his retirement. He was always tinkering with something in his garage. He enjoyed hunting deer, Oliver tractors, and Straub beer. Marty was a great friend and would help anyone with anything.
Marty is survived by two sons, Martin L. Cron Jr. (Heidi) of Beaver Falls and Matthew L. Cron (Heather) of New Sewickley Twp.; three grandchildren, Madeline, Aubrey and Maverick; three sisters, Melody Kelly, Lisa Dietrich (Robert), and Deborah Cron, all of New Sewickley Twp.; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Frueh in Ohio and Linda Price of Conway; and many, many nieces and nephews. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister Dianne Giuliani, a brother-in-law Joseph “Spike” Kelly, and his in-laws, John and Eleanor Spagnoli.
At Marty’s request, there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory Catholic Church 2 West Beaver Street Zelienople, PA 16063.
Services have been entrusted to the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home, 273 Rt. 68 Rochester, PA 15074.
