March 11, 1943 – June 3, 2026
Pauline “Nana” Smith, 83, passed away on June 3, 2026.
Born in Union, South Carolina, Pauline was raised in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and later made her home in Rochester, Pennsylvania. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love anchored her family for generations.
She leaves behind her children: Paula Barnes; Monica Lackovich and her husband Nick; Karen Solomon and her husband Rodney; and Roger Smith and his wife Andrea. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, her sister Francine Gist; her brother-in-law Freddie Gueirri; her sisters-in-law Hanna Smith and Dorothy Green; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.
Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger T. Smith, Sr.; her mother Odessa and Henry Price; her father Frank Stewart; her sister Lessie Gueirri; Ross Stewart; and her great-grandchildren Ayden Perminter and Aliyah Berke.
Anyone who knew Pauline knew that she loved being with her daughters. She treasured time spent together — whether it was a simple outing, running errands, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She had a joyful spirit and a sense of humor that could light up a room. She loved elephants, collecting them with their trunks raised high — a symbol of good luck and strength that reflected her own nature.
Pauline was the kind of grandmother everyone dreams of having. She fed her family with her hands and loved them with her whole heart. She always wanted the best for everyone and made sure her family felt safe, supported, and cared for.
Her legacy lives on in the love she poured into generations.
We trust that Pauline has been received in peace and light, reunited with loved ones who went before her, and surrounded by the same warmth she gave so freely in this life. Her spirit lives on in her family, in the laughter she inspired, and in the love that will continue through every generation she touched.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Heritage Valley Beaver and Good Samaritan Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Pauline during her final days.
