

Veronica Shumate, 79, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Monaca/Center Township, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 under the compassionate care of staff at Butler Hospital. She was born January 6, 1942 in Rochester, daughter of the late John and Vera (Broman) Dyrwal. Veronica grew up on the family farm in Monaca/Center Township.
She and her late husband Gordon “Gordo” Shumate made their home in Slippery Rock. They shared a passion in the wood-working craft; owning and operating the G&V Wood Craft Store for a number of years. Veronica, also known by friends and family as “V” loved nature and being outdoors. She enjoyed planting and attending to her beautiful flower gardens, nurturing the diverse species of birds that visited the hanging feeders in her yard, and the families of white-tail deer that were nourished by the corn she provided. Veronica was a woman of faith and member of St. Peter Church, Slippery Rock.
Veronica was preceded in death by her husband: Gordon “Gordo” Shumate.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: David (Madeline) Yenchko, Highland, MI; daughter and son-in-law: Anita “Teta” (Rick) Boguszewski, Hopewell Township; step son his wife: Gordon “Skipp” (Michelle) of Ohio; Patricia (Chris) Then, Conway; seven grandchildren: Jacob, Madison, Christopher, Melissa, Ryan, Michael and Ashley; three great grandchildren: Noah, Emma and Nicholas; her sister and brother-in-law: Judy (Gary) Kopecky, Monaca.
