Willard Francis “Sonny” Jenkins, Jr. 72, a life-long resident of New Brighton, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, May 22, 2017, while under the compassionate care of Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.
Sonny was born November 4, 1944 in New Brighton, son of the late Willard Francis and Doris (McDanel) Jenkins. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Sonny retired as a truck driver with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. After his retirement, Sonny helped his long-time friend Mike McNutt as a floral delivery driver for McNutt’s Abbey Flowers, New Brighton.
He was a person of deep faith and was an avid reader of his Bible as well as other Christian books. Sonny lived by Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Sonny openly shared his faith in Christ. He was a member of Church of the Living Christ, Bridgewater.
Sonny is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Robert (Christine) Jenkins, Washington, PA; Larry (Judy) Jenkins, New Castle; Jerry (Nichole) Jenkins, Patterson Township; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In honor of his wishes, he was privately interred in the John F. Kennedy Memorial Garden at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park with arrangements by SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Church of the Living Christ. On line condolences may be offered at www.saul-gabauer.com
