

Alva “Butch” L. Van Houten, 70, of Rockford passed away December 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after a 71/2 year battle with prostate cancer. Born December 8, 1944 in St. Paul, MN; he was the son of Alva L. and Evelyn (Elly) Van Houten. He married Vicky Westendorf on September 18, 1982 in Rockford.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict; he retired from Sundstrand after 30 years of employment and was a member of Local 592.
An avid genealogist for many years, Butch enjoyed attending Vanning events, swimming at the Millennium Club, reading, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Vicky Van Houten; children, Cari Wiles, Loren Van Houten, Lynette (Mike) Crane, Donald Fowler, Gayle (Gaylon) Ward-Bennett, and Rose Marley; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Craig (Eileen) Van Houten; sisters, Linda Oteham, Cathy (Gary) Fristed, and Laura Andersen; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Larry; granddaughter, Brittany; great-grandson, Jalen.
