Brenda D. Young

Brenda Young, 74, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, October 21, 2020 at Swedish American Hospital. She was born September 9, 1946, the daughter of William and Mrytie (Butler) Maynard. Brenda was a licensed practical nurse for 8 years working at various nursing homes through an agency. She attended City First Church. Brenda had a passion for quilting, sewing and doing crafts. Everyone knew not to bother Brenda when she was watching her beloved westerns.

Brenda is loved and missed by her children, Carol (Franklin D. “Don” Jr.) Harris, Lisa McCormick-Merritt, and Rick (Theresa Derrickson) McCormick; grandchildren, Bruce (Joanne Wygans) McKinney, Kristina Taylor, Joshua (Rose) Harris, Nicholas McCormick, Tim (Jackie) Shaw, Stephanie Merritt, Karissa Merritt, Ashley Shaw, Daniel (Beana) Behrens; 9 great-grandchildren, four-legged best friend, B.J.; special cousin, Jimmy Reynolds; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, grandsons, Michael McCormick, Joseph McCormick and Andrew Harris, and siblings, Aileen Maynard and James T. Maynard.

A walk through visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State St, Rockford, IL 61102. Funeral services will be private. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
