Carl was a proud graduate of Winnebago High School, class of 1965. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from UW Platteville and eventually his Master's Degree through his continued education. Carl was a chemistry teacher for 38 years at Auburn High School, sharing his knowledge and love of learning with others. But outside the classroom, his heart was happiest in the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camper who loved being surrounded by nature. He even created his own fishing lures (even some custom for President George H.W. Bush), putting his creativity and passion into something he loved.
Carl made quilts alongside his beloved wife, Rita. The quilts made, remind family members of, and represent the love, time, and memories Carl shared with all of them. Carl was a family man, a teacher, and a man who found so much joy in the simple things in life. Carl will be remembered by his family and all who knew him in the quiet moments outdoors, in the memories shared, and in all the little things that remind him of you.
Carl leaves behind his children, Michael (Tatyana) Tenner and Kim Tenner; grandchild, Sergey Safronyuk; and sister, Sue (Robert) Arntzen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita M. Tenner; his parents, Stanley W. and Dorothy M. Tenner; and his brother, Rick (Evelyn) Tenner.
A Memorial Service for Carl will be held On Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 11am at United Lutheran Church (3630 N Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL 61103). Private Burial will be held at Willwood Burial Park.
