Edith A. Matheson

Edith A. Matheson, 91, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, January 7, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born December 12, 1931 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Donald and Bertha (Hymes) Willson. Edith graduated from West High School. She married the love of her life, Robert L. Matheson, Sr. on September 1, 1951 in Rockford. Edith was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was employed by Rockford Memorial Hospital in the admitting department and went on to work at the Pecatonica Library until retirement. Edith was a talented oil painter, enjoyed reading, gardening and being outside. She had a huge love for dogs and RC cola. Most of all, she adored being with her family.

Edith is loved and missed by her children, Douglas (Pam) Matheson, Robert (Kristie) Matheson, Jr., Perry (Linda) Matheson and Tim (Barb) Matheson; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Matheson, Sr.

The family would like to thank Heritage Woods of Rockford, Alden Debes and Family Home/Hospice for their wonderful care, support and love.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark, Rockford.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2023 at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State St, Rockford, IL 61102 with a visitation to begin at 1:00 p.m., until the time of service. Burial at Willwood Burial Park.
