Frances D McCarthy

Born on August 5, 1929 in Rockford, IL, she was the daughter of Dorothy E. Nagles and Frank A. Nagles. She married Richard McCarthy on Oct. 23,1949. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Frank A. Nagles Jr.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Michael W. McCarthy and wife Elaine of Pekin, IL, daughter, JoEllen Smith of St. Cloud, Florida. and granddaughter Erin McCarthy Moore and husband Ian Moore of Anchorage, AK., and many nephews and nieces.

Frances lived a long, happy and full life. She graduated from West High School in 1947. As a working mother she worked as a typesetter for newspapers, Barnes Drill Company, JL Clark, and Amerock, in Rockford, IL. She moved from Rockford to Peoria, IL in 1972, then to St. Cloud, FL, then to Arkdale, WI, and back to St. Cloud, FL in 2005. She was a devoted parent whose greatest joy was family. Whether through everyday acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or cherished traditions, she created a lifetime of treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Her time in retirement was blessed by a Red Hat group, exercise group, weekly luncheons, a sewing group, a senior circle group along with travel trips and cruises. She loved being creative and social with her sewing and crafts that she made and gave to anyone who wanted them.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the countless memories shared, the lessons taught, and the enduring love that will remain with us forever. Frances's legacy of compassion, generosity and love for family will continue to inspire generations to come. Throughout the years, she touched the lives of countless people with a most generous heart, unwavering support, and a warm smile that made everyone feel welcome.

Her love was a gift, her memory a treasure, and her presence will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 7000 West State Street, Rockford, Illinois 61102, on October 9, 2026, beginning at 11:30 am.
