Gary was born April 6, 1945 to Frank E. Scott and Lenore (Winget) Scott in Rockford, IL. His mother passed away when he was five. When his father got remarried to Phyllis Warr, Gary gained a stepmother, who he grew very close to over the years. Gary graduated from Harlem High School in 1963.
Gary enlisted in the Air Force in August 1964. He rose to the rank of Sargent, and during the Vietnam War, he served as a supply inventory specialist for the 1876 Communications Squadron. He was honorably discharged in June 1968 and remained proud of his service in Vietnam for the rest of his life.
After the military, Gary moved to Washington state where he lived for several decades. He returned to Rockford when he retired.
Gary liked cats, music, movies, theater, and adventure novels. And he loved telling stories about his childhood in Rockford.
He is predeceased by his parents and his stepsister, Donna Robertson.
He is survived by his nieces: Kim Gustafson, Trina Pearce, Deon Fresco, Sharla Bachrodt, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
