Jimmy L. Hughes, 90, of Rockford passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 with family by his side. James was born in Rockford on February 19, 1929, the son of James Sylvester Hughes and Luella Keller. Jimmy married Joanne Linder and she preceded him in death. Jimmy was a semi-driver and member of Teamsters Local #325 and the Teamsters Retirees. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, loved fishing, visiting Balsam Lake, WI and being surrounded by his family. Jimmy is survived by his sons: J. Daniel, Timothy (Rita) and Mark; daughter Valerie (William) Johnson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and brother Jerome Hughes. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons David and Guy, grandson Joseph Johnson and brother Wayne “Oscar”. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice or the family to be used in Jimmy’s name. A special “thank you” to his granddaughter Hollie and her husband Corey, Rozene and Heartland Hospice for taking such wonderful care of GG’s papa.
Service to celebrate Jimmy life will be 10:00 am Friday, July 26, 2019 at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 West State Street in Rockford; visitation for Jimmy will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Willwood Cemetery.
