

Richard Gonzales Sr., 76, was called home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 surrounded in love by his family. Born on April 3, 1936 in Eagle Lake Texas, he was the son of Modesto and Jovita (Reyes) Gonzales. Richard married his soul mate Justina Perez on October 25, 1958. He worked at MTE Hydraulics and retired from Fenner Fluid Power after many years of dedicated service as a manufacturing supervisor. He truly enjoyed life and all the gifts it had to offer. Family was the most important part of his life and as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he taught us many of lifes lessons, instilling in us the importance of strength, love, compassion, and forgiveness for ourselves and those around us. He was a very charismatic, fun loving man and will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of Heartland Hospice and VNA for the wonderful, compassionate care they provided. Survivors include his loving wife Justina, children; Richard (Marian) Gonzales, Maria (Ernesto) Saavedra, Joe Gonzales, Janie Staas, Roy Gonzales; 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and his ever faithful four legged friend Muffin; Siblings, Ramiro (Elena) Gonzales, Eduardo (Debbi) Gonzales, Ismael (Rose) Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, Olivia (Enrique) Vilchez, Amelia Gonzales, Gloria Gonzales and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son, Ernesto, parents and son-in-law Wayne Staas. We will celebrate his life with a Memorial Mass 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford. Father Robert Melnick will be officiating.
